How to Use the Audio Storyteller (Text-to-Speech)

Turn your family's wacky Three Word Tale into a mini-audiobook. Learn how our new voice narration feature works.

Three Word Tale includes a built-in Audio Storyteller that automatically reads your family’s collaborative stories out loud—perfect for younger kids and creating a mini-audiobook experience.

Hear Your Story Come Alive

When you finish playing a round of Three Word Tale, the AI doesn’t just generate a comic book panel—it also generates a professional voice narration of the entire story you just wrote together.

We built this feature (powered by the Lazybird API) because we noticed how much kids love hearing their silly, chaotic stories read back to them by a “serious” narrator.

How to use the Audio Storyteller

You don’t need to do anything special to enable the Audio Storyteller! Here is how it works:

  1. Play a standard game of Three Word Tale, taking turns adding your three words.
  2. Complete the Drawing Phase as usual.
  3. During the Results Phase, wait a few seconds for the AI to generate your Tale Card.
  4. Right beneath the finished story text, you will see an Audio Player.
  5. Click Play and listen to the narrator bring your family’s chaos to life!

Why We Built It

We designed Three Word Tale to be accessible to everyone in the family. The Audio Storyteller serves several important purposes:

  • Pre-readers & Early Readers: Kids ages 4-6 who might be too young to read the final story fluently can now enjoy the exact same payoff as the older kids.
  • Shared Experience: Hearing the story out loud together while looking at the comic panels creates a magical, shared family moment in the living room or over a Zoom call.
  • Accessibility: Text-to-speech ensures that visually impaired players can fully enjoy the narrative outcome of the game.

Sharing Your Audio Story

When you share your Tale Card via the Share button, the audio file goes with it! Grandparents who click the link will not only see the comic you drew, but they’ll be able to hit play and listen to the story exactly as you heard it.

Next time you play, don’t just read the story—listen to it!
