Play With Anyone: Public Rooms Are Here
Meet new storytelling partners around the world. Join public rooms or create private ones for family and friends.
Two Ways to Play
Three Word Tale now offers Public Rooms — a new way to play with storytellers from around the world. Whether you want a private family session or a spontaneous game with new friends, the choice is yours.
Public Rooms: Play With the World
Jump into a public room and collaborate with new storytelling partners:
- Instant matches — No waiting, join a game in progress
- Meet creative people — Connect with players worldwide
- Casual or competitive — Some rooms are relaxed, others race for the best turns
- Anonymous or social — Use a nickname or build a reputation
Public rooms are perfect when:
- Your friends aren’t online
- You want fresh perspectives in your stories
- You’re looking for a quick creative break
- You want to see how other people play
Private Rooms: Your Safe Space
Private rooms remain exactly as they were — invite-only spaces for:
- Family game nights — Grandparents, cousins, everyone together
- Classroom sessions — Teachers control who joins
- Friend groups — Your regular storytelling circle
- Intimate stories — Personal tales for people you trust
Create a room, share the code, and only invited players can enter.
How It Works
Joining a Public Room:
- Click “Browse Public Rooms”
- See active games and player counts
- Join one that appeals to you
- Start adding your three words
Creating a Public Room:
- Create a room as usual
- Toggle “Make Public” before starting
- Your room appears in the public list
- Anyone can join until it’s full
Keeping It Private:
- Don’t toggle “Make Public”
- Share your room code only with invited players
- Perfect for family and close friends
Safety First
Public rooms include built-in protections:
- Content moderation — Automatic filtering of inappropriate language
- Report system — Flag disruptive players instantly
- Block players — Never see someone again if you choose
- No personal info required — Anonymous play keeps everyone safe
For Adults, By Adults
While Three Word Tale started as a family game, our community told us they wanted to play with other adults too. Public rooms let grown-ups:
- Find sophisticated storytelling partners
- Play at their own pace with busy schedules
- Discover new creative styles
- Build a network of writing friends
The three-word constraint works beautifully with adult wordplay, wit, and literary references.
